Membership Agreement FAQs
Everything you need to know about your LegalWise membership agreement, terms, and coverage.
General Membership
Your membership includes 24/7 legal advice through our LegalLine, face-to-face legal consultations at any branch, court representation for covered matters, document drafting and legal correspondence, and family coverage. Specific benefits vary by plan (Gold, GoldPLUS, or Platinum).
Your membership covers you (the main member), your spouse or life partner, and your dependent children under 21 years of age (or under 25 if still studying full-time). Extended family coverage for parents and in-laws is available as an optional add-on benefit.
You can join LegalWise online through our website, by calling 0861 42 7777, or by visiting any LegalWise branch. You'll need your ID document and banking details to set up your debit order.
Waiting Periods & Coverage
There is typically a 3-month waiting period for most legal matters. This means your full coverage begins after you have been a paying member for 3 months. However, telephonic legal advice through our LegalLine is available immediately after joining.
LegalWise covers a wide range of legal matters including family law (divorce, custody, maintenance), criminal law (defense and bail applications), labour law (CCMA matters, unfair dismissal), civil matters (contract disputes, consumer issues), and Road Accident Fund claims. Some exclusions apply - please refer to your membership agreement for full details.
Common exclusions include pre-existing legal matters (issues that arose before your membership or during the waiting period), business-related legal matters, immigration matters, and matters against LegalWise. Please refer to your membership agreement for the complete list of exclusions.
Payments & Cancellation
Premiums are collected via debit order from your bank account on a monthly basis. You can choose your preferred debit order date when signing up. Payments can also be made at any LegalWise branch or through various retail partners.
If you miss a payment, you have a grace period to catch up. During this time, your legal services may be suspended. To reinstate your membership, you'll need to pay any outstanding premiums. We recommend contacting us immediately if you're having difficulty making payments.
You can cancel your membership at any time by calling 0861 42 7777, emailing us, or visiting a branch. If you're within the first 30 days, you may be eligible for a full refund under our Money Back Guarantee. Please note that if you have active legal matters being handled, these will need to be concluded or transferred.
Using Your Benefits
For immediate telephonic advice, call our 24/7 LegalLine at 0861 42 7777. For face-to-face consultations, visit any LegalWise branch with your membership card or ID document. No appointment is necessary for branch visits.
LegalWise provides legal services through our network of panel attorneys. You cannot select a private attorney and have LegalWise pay for their services. Our panel attorneys are qualified and experienced in handling the types of matters covered by your membership.
Bring your ID document or membership card, plus any documents related to your legal matter (summons, contracts, court papers, correspondence, etc.). The more relevant documentation you can provide, the better we can assist you.
